The Throne May, 2021

Installation

"How do we understand and achieve 'balance' in various relationships?"

The base structure of the piece is a seesaw. It tends to push the audiences to make a choice.

Site-specific work.

Installed at Fui Space, Elthorne Road Studio and Granary Building King's Cross

The social responsibility of the artists today is not just to improve the public’s taste. Claire Bishop suggested in the article of “Participation and Spectacle: Where Are We Now?” that the artistic practice must be an action to interface with reality, in order to repair the social bound. In today’s fast consumption society, I hope people can slow down the pace and start noticing things that often being ignored in everyday life. “The Door” is built for such purpose. The intension for the work is to focus on collaboration in every day’s activities. By slightly changing a person’s social habit, I’m here to challenge people stepping out of the comfort zone and making connections with others. The doubled standard sized door has four handles on each side. In order to walk through, the door requires two people to open at the same time.

Fui Space, Guangzhou

This site is a semi-open space.

There are two more sound pieces to be found behind the door.

Granay Bruildling, King's Cross, London

Redesigned with doorframe, the structure is located at "The Street" of the building. Three pairs of tensabarriers aid to invite audiences to walk through.

Elthorne Road, London

The found doorframe is an ideal place to demonstrate the concept of the work - an existed doorframe in an active space.
